So on Friday I got the replacement pulley I needed for my B2600i and went to install it and the 3 belts yesterday afternoon.

I noticed I had broken a previous owners wiring repair when taking out the belts , a sensor that runs to the throttle body so it got fixed and then the truck got reassembled with those !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and everything looked good and tight so I popped into the cab to start it.

No start

Hmmm - sometimes she’s a bit hard to start after sitting

Crank, feather throttle, stop, repeat.

Shit - still not starting

Pop the hood and look around, maybe I knocked the coil wire loose or something.

Kinja'd!!!

Shit again! Two of the wires on the distributor plug broke. Well luckily this connector is only $8 an on ama zon with Prime shipping so it’ll be here on Tuesday...

My dad owned a 2600i 4x4 manual for 12 years. It was a real workhorse but lost compression at 273k miles. I miss that thing.

Seeing one on here makes me smile.

My 98 Subaru had those screw type tensioners on the accessories, at least the alternator belt . Can’t remember, I assume the timing belt used the spring-type.

And then you look at the garage floor and there’s the small but essential component that goes in the most inaccessible part of what you just repaired, which you forgot to replace . Then for about thirty seconds you ask yourself, “Do I really need that? Can I get away with just leaving it off? If I do, will everything be fine? Do I really have to do all this disassembly and reassembly again? ” To which the answers are “yes,” “ no,” “ no,” and “ yes.”

Sure beats it failing intermittently and the resulting 2 years of troubleshooting....

I do enjoy the truck, but it's a bit of a hassle to fix and source parts for.

Honestly with as bas shape as they were in it may have been part of the hard starting problem she has.

They actually work pretty well and are easy to set tension on. Just something I'd never came across before in the dozen plus vehicles I'd changes a belt on.

How did the wires break? From here, it doesn’t really look like a previous repair that happened to pull apart. It actually kinda looks more like rodent damage, the way the wires are severed so close to the connector. I also see a couple of bare spots by the taped portion of the harness, but there doesn’t seem to be anything nearby that would have chafed them.

I replaced all the V belts after one broke and must have bumped  the connector while doing so. They weren’t chewed off but broken right at the connector , likely the connection was already petty iffy so this may have helped fix an intermittent hard start issue.

The repair I mentioned in the post was a shifty previous butt splice on a sensor on the other side of the engine.
